Implementing basic OSPF lab#2, configuring core OSPF config (network ospf X), static metric redistribution for ASBR: (redistribute static metric subnets metric xxx metric type 1/2), changing router IDs (router-id), clear ip ospf processes, route summarization (ABR: area xx range (IP), (summary mask), ASBR: (for BGP/EIGRP that has no area): summary-address (IP) (summary mask), understanding DR, BDR; implementing DR election (go to interface, ip ospf priority xxx), as well as to re-calculate the metric cost calculation (auto-cost reference-bandwidth xxxx)..

I’ve just recently found out that the existing mt4-demo2_4 decimal server listed in the Trade Servers list weren’t able to be contacted. I was searching through the internet and finally managed to retrieve the exact server name. steps:

  1. go to Tools, then to Options.  (server tab)
  2. delete the existing server field delete and type in mt4-demo2.ibfx.com:443
  3. click the OK button.
  4. register demo acc as per normal.
  5. now, after filling in the necessary, the next page will appear the server list and scan button. we should be able to get numbers for that server in the ping column, click the next button.
  6. the new demo account number starting with the number 5, and a password, copy to notepad and login as usual.

This weekend I’ve ventured the world of EIGRP by configuring load balancing between 2 routers through ‘variance’ command, as well as to understand more about how fast the network can converge through a list of successor and feasible successor…

And now, some steps to remember on configuring multipoint access on frame relay:

  1. Create a multipoint sub interface in serial 0/0 (s0/0.1 multipoint), ensure s0/0’s encapsulation is frame relay before doing. After which, put an ip address, and map the destination accordingly (frame-relay map ip 172.16.124.2 102 broadcast) and frame-relay map ip 172.16.124.3 103 broadcast
  2. On the spoke (R3, R4), configure frame relay on s0/0, and frame map the DLCI accordingly. (R3 frame-relay map ip 172.16.124.1 301 br), (R2 frame-relay map ip 172.16.124.1 201 br), as well as both R3 and R2 pointing to each DLCI. (R3 frame-relay map ip 172.16.124.2 301 br), R2 frame-relay map ip 172.16.124.3 201 broadcast) — this ensures that R2 / R3 knows where to send which DLCI for which route.
  3. Ensure both spokes can send icmp packet to R1, R2 can send packets to R3 (vice versa) before running routing protocol.
  4. After which, configure eigrp autonomous system (up2u) with NO Auto Summary!! and broadcast the network accordingly. (may want to setup a loopback at R3 & R2 for split horizon as clients for demo purposes)
  5. R2 may not be able to see advertisement from R3 (vice versa) due to split horizon mechanism on which it prevents routing loops by prohibiting a router from advertising a route back onto the interface from which it was learned…
  6. So.. since the adv from R2 & R3 required to be sent / received frm the same serial int, we therefore disable split horizon by going to the sub interface (s0/0.1, and type no ip split-hor eigrp (up2u)..

Configuring route summarization on each serial interfaces: go to each serial interfaces (R1) ip summary-address eigrp 25 10.1.0.0 255.255.252.0, (R2) ip summary-address eigrp 25 10.2.0.0 255.255.252.0, (R3) ip summary-address eigrp 25 10.3.0.0 255.255.252.0

Configuring bandwidth percent: ip bandwidth-percent eigrp 25 80 (increase by 30% from default bandwidth of 50%) on sub serial inteface s0/0.1 (R1)

This morning I’ve managed to read the invitation email when I was half awake.. Luckily I have alrdy had a cisco ID so the registration on a cell ph wasn’t a big issue.. Well, after a few mths watching the vid tutorials, I felt that whatever I’ve absorbed requires to be hardened.. The key to an expert is repetitions imho..

No more telnetting through devices, my next step is to know more on the security setup, includes ssh keys as well as the broad domain of ipsec… Long way to go… But at least I’m starting my single step prolly this aft..
