ISDN30 is a type of Integrated Service Digital Network system that is used for the transmission of voice and data over wires. ISDN 30 is one of the most economical and efficient communication systems. It is used in medium as well as large businesses. Through ISDN 30, business organizations and call centers can get high speed Internet connections at very economical rates.

ISDN 30 connections can be obtained from the local telephone exchange. The speed that it provides may vary; the maximum is 2mbps (E1 circuit). ISDN 30 consists of two channels: one channel is used for synchronization and maintenance, while the other is used for service signals. Using suitable ISDN (Integrated Service Digital Network) equipment, both voice and data can be sent both locally and internationally.

Features of ISDN 30

There are several key features of ISDN 30 that explain the reason for the popularity of this communication system:

  • Digital Lines: ISDN 30 is most suitable for high-speed data transfer, voice transmission, etc. That’s why it is very useful for call centers.
  • Digital Path: This feature allows voice, data and text transmission.
  • Calling Line Identification: This feature identifies the lines before answering.
  • Digital Private Network Signaling System Interworking (DPNSS): This feature allows users to interconnect with private networks.
  • Direct Dialing in (DDI): Offers economical and direct phone accessibility to PABX users.
  • Network Provided Diversion: This feature allows you to transfer calls automatically to any alternative point.
  • Public dialed service: This feature allows you to pay as per use. You can use high-speed connection at affordable rates.
  • Channels: ISDN 30 delivers eight 64kbps Channels and depending upon your requirement, it can be increased further.

ISDN 30 is more suitable for medium and large businesses. The ISDN 30 is an intelligent choice for those looking for cost-effective communication systems for their businesses.

i’m not sure why IOS 12.4 has missed out ‘multilink’ under the serial interface option.. i tried on 3640, 3670 even 7200 series but still unable to simulate the multilink config.. i’m able to go to multilink interface, assign an IP, set encapsulation as ppp.. but subsequently unable to tag and assign serial int to group itself..  : / idk i might skip that portion and revisit later..

Multilink PPP (also referred to as MP, MPPP, MLP, or Multilink) provides a method for spreading traffic across multiple physical WAN links while providing packet fragmentation and reassembly, proper sequencing, multivendor interoperability, and load balancing on inbound and outbound traffic.

a sleeping cat

I’m quite surprised to find out that Asterisk chose CentOS as an underlying OS. i thought it was derived from FreeBSD.. perhaps they don’t consider it as an network appliance hmm..

btw i’ve installed it on my VM and i’m using FreePBX as a default and complete web based config and management for Asterisk. it’s quite famous and modular afaik.. well.. perhaps i’ll try it out this weekend..

btw i find below argument between opensource vs commercial software very true and well written…

“I’ve deployed quite a few Cisco based VoIP systems for small to large sized companies. I’ve also used Asterisk. There is no arguing with the fact that Asterisk is free. The debate will go on for years about the actual cost, or TCO of commercial -vs- open source, so I will spare everyone that.”

“What it really comes down to is risk. There is an old saying in IT, that “No one ever got fired for buying IBM”. In general (read 99.99% of the time), that is a true statement. Today you can say the same thing about Cisco.”

“When you suggest to management that you can produce a system with open source software that will have an over-all cost reduction of (insert your best guess at savings here), you are setting youself up to be either a hero, or a patsy, depending on how well everything goes. If you save the company $200,000.00 on their new phone system by sucessfully installing Asterisk, you will likely get a big pat on the back and perhaps, if you are VERY lucky even an extra grand or two in your bonus. If you suggest installing Asterisk to save money, and after several months the company’s phone system is still dropping customer calls, or failing to route calls correctly, well you better have your resume up-to-date, cause the CEO is going to want someone’s head. If your Cisco VoIP deployment goes all to hell, and you’ve kept Cisco involved when there are problems, then your butt is covered at least.”
